Brighton Engineering Depot has an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer to join us as an Exam Lead—a key role where you'll combine hands-on maintenance with team leadership to keep our fleet safe, reliable and ready for service.
What You'll Be Doing
- Leading and coordinating teams delivering routine exams, maintenance and fault finding
- Acting as the link between the shop floor and Production Office
- Carrying out hands-on mechanical and electrical work to required standards
- Coaching and mentoring colleagues to drive performance and development
- Ensuring all activities are completed safely, efficiently and compliantly
- Reviewing upcoming work and supporting effective planning and delivery
- Driving continuous improvement across quality, safety and efficiency
- Supporting wider depot activities where trained (e.g. DP, forklift)
What We're Looking For
- SE1 competency (minimum)
- At least 2.5 years' experience in a rolling stock or similar engineering environment
- Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical principles
- Proven ability to lead, motivate and support teams
- A proactive, safety-first approach with strong problem-solving skills
- Coaching/mentoring experience (or working towards qualification)
- Positive attitude with the ability to build strong working relationships
